Marshfield Youth Soccer Program has embarked on the development of a Soccer Club – Marshfield United Soccer Club – to provide an opportunity for our young soccer players seeking an additional competitive challenge and a developmental soccer experience beyond the MYS recreational and MYS travel teams.
Private Club soccer programs are quietly becoming the norm for any young person with an interest and desire to develop their soccer skills and play within a more competitive arena. There are many positives to the private soccer clubs within our region, but they also come with a sizable cost, conflicts with other sports, expected commitment to put club soccer “first,” and discourages local involvement in town soccer or other sports.
The philosophy of the Marshfield United Soccer Club will accentuate the positives of a club soccer program while limiting the negatives. MUSC players will receive professional coaching and compete with the top regional soccer clubs; they will have the opportunity to participate in multiple town sports while honoring their commitment to the travel and club teams, it will be less expensive than the private clubs, and the players will take personal pride playing for their home town.
Marshfield United was established May 2015 with a vision and common goal for families and players. Based on feedback and experiences we felt that there was a better way to participate in Club Soccer. We had 35 girls show up to tryouts in June of 2015 and the top 17 players were chosen for the first MUSC team. In the Spring of 2016 we added a U9 Boys and U9 Girls team and both of their seasons proved successful.
We are finishing our first year and I couldn't be prouder of what has been accomplished on and off of the field. I have heard countless stories of the return of time and balance and I have also received feedback on opportunities for improvement. We recognize growing pains; we are listening and acting upon.
Upon MYS board approval in the very near future, we will be announcing a Director of Coaching. The original plan was to introduce this position in the Fall, but we feel it is critical to introduce this role ASAP. This will be a role that will be responsible for player development, coaching curriculum, club vision and the face of the club. This is the next step for MUSC and I could not be more excited.
The Marshfield United Soccer Club plays within the MAPLE League, a premier club soccer league broken up regionally throughout all of Massachusetts. The MAPLE League segments their age appropriate divisions by the player’s birth year (not grade year). This is different than recreational and / or town soccer and requires a different structure to the teams.
As we embark upon the Fall 2016 / Spring 2017 season, The Marshfield United Soccer Club will be selecting players for a team within the following age and gender groups:
Boys born in 2006 (MUSC B’06); and Girls born in 2006 (MUSC G’06)
Boys born in 2007 (MUSC B’07); and Girls born in 2007 (MUSC G’07)
Boys born in 2008 (MUSC B’08); and Girls born in 2008 (MUSC G’08)

Thursday, June 9th from 7:30pm-9:00pm
Here are some of the things you can expect from MUSC moving forward:
1. The plan is to create three boys and three girls’ teams for kids born in 2008, 2007 and 2006. Each team will carry approximately 13 to 15 players. Parents need to be prepared that there will be a selection process and not everyone will make the team(s). MYS will remain committed to developing all of our soccer players through the Town Travel and Academy programs.
2. MUSC teams will be coached and trained by professional coaches.
3. The cost will be $700 for MUSC 08’s (U9) and $900 for MUSC 06’s (U11) and MUSC 07’s (U10)
4. Marshfield United Soccer is a full year program. The teams will play in the Fall 2016 season, one indoor session in Winter, and again in the Spring 2017 season.
